The world is getting smaller and companies looking to conduct business overseas or trying to reach a larger market share at home are looking for employees who can speak more than one language. Businesses are not looking for just Japanese translators or Korean translators to hire, they want professionals who can also speak several languages and manage a company or perform other business actions as well.

Every day, more jobs advertise the need for bilingual applicants and employers are increasingly looking for more than English speaking professionals. A recent study found that 31% of executives speak two languages and 4% speak more than 4!

It is true that America's ethnicity is changing and therefore the need to hire Spanish speaking professionals is also increasing. Half of the population growth since 2001 is Latino and this means two things- those people most likely will speak both Spanish and English and the other thing- those people are also consumers, with millions of dollars of buying power possibilities. Other Reasons to Consider Going Bilingual

Employers will pay what it takes to get you. According to statistics, bilingual pay differentials range between 5 and 20 percent per hour more than the position's base rate. Being bilingual not only is good for the wallet, it's good for your well being. Being able to help someone who only speaks Spanish or Japanese is very powerful. Like being the only doctor on a plane in an emergency, being the only bilingual speaker in a crowded room of people who need explanation is like gold. It's not just convenient, sometimes its crucial. Think of the benefits of traveling in Mexico alone.

What You Need To Know Before Applying For A Job that Requires You to Be Bilingual

Be prepared to take a bilingual exam. You may be able to carry on a decent conversation in the language, but companies want to be sure you can fully and effectively communicate the business' policies and technical terms. The tests may be written and/or oral and will be different from one company to the next.

When you think about whether to go back to school to get another degree to improve your income level, think about learning another language- it litereally will pay off!
