The upcoming Memorial Day weekend will mark the unofficial start of the top-down summer driving season. And to celebrate this event, Mazda North American Operations or MNAO, maker of MX-5 Miata, the world's best-selling convertible sports car and the only car with an optional power-retractable hard top that takes up no trunk space---would like to make sure that convertible drivers across the country get to enjoy their vehicles while being safe.

According to Jim O'Sullivan, President and CEO of MNAO, "With over 800,000 sold, the MX-5 Miata is the best selling convertible sports car in the world, so if anybody has the authority to speak on behalf of top-down, wind-in-your-hair, sun-on-your-face driving fun, it's Mazda. With Memorial Day weekend coming fast, summer road-trips can't be far behind. But before you hit the road, remember these time-honored road-tips."

Tips from Mazda on how to have a great topless summer driving experience:

It is not only the skin that gets damaged but also your hair while riding or driving in a convertible. To prevent from damaging your hair makes sure that you tie your hair into a ponytail. You may also wrap you hair in a bun or why not wear a hat.

Don't forget to wear sunglasses not only to reduce the blinding glare from the sun but also it to protect your eyes from insects and other airborne debris.

And don't forget since you are driving a convertible never leave loose articles like papers, clothing, etc especially with the top down or with the windows lowered.

It is also not a good idea to park under the shade of a tree especially with your top down unless you are in the mood to clean some bird's poo off your convertible's upholstery.

To safely close the top of your convertible be sure to pull over, stop and then close the top of the convertible. Do the same if you are to open the convertible's top. Why? The wind force may damage the mechanism that operates the top and driving while controlling the top will only distract you.

And of course don't forget to bring with you water to protect yourself from dehydration. Drinking plenty of liquid will also help to keep your skin moisturized. Apply lip balm on your lips to prevent it from chapping.

Remain safe by always. Buckle up your seat belt regardless of how long or short that trip you are to take. Remember its better to safe than to be sorry later on.

The starting price of the MX-5 Miata is $20,435 (MSRP). The Miata convertible offers up to 30mpg on the highway plus an open-top motoring experience with minimal wind turbulence in the cabin. An aero-board wind deflector which is very common now on convertibles but was invented by Mazda for its 1987 RX-7 Convertible is responsible for providing quality riding experience.

Aside from the MX-5 Miata convertible, Mazda further produces seven more vehicles that offer sunroofs as options such as the MAZDA 3, MAZDA 5, MAZDA 6, CX-7, CX-9, Tribute, and the rotary-powered RX-8 sports car.

O'Sullivan also added, "Every one is perfect for a summer road-trip to nowhere in particular -- when you're driving a Mazda, Zoom-Zoom means the journey is worth the trip itself."
