Wilderness Therapy Program defines boarding school as a method which uses the resources of wildlife, which is removed from the city, to treat and assist in the growth of those involved. Many of us live in the false notion that a boarding school is meant for disciplining children in the old school ways. But simple disciplining never helps a child in becoming a responsible person. It has to come from within. Lawrence Kohlberg, a philosopher stated that "growing children advance through definite stages of moral development in a manner similar to their progression through Piaget's well-known stages of cognitive development." His theorized that "human beings progress consecutively from one stage to the next in an invariant sequence, not skipping any stage or going back to any previous stage."

Often it becomes difficult to help a troubled teen go through these stages by staying in the comfortable home atmosphere or they get anything that they want and are perennially prone to getting influenced by negative peer group. So it becomes necessary then that the troubled child is taken away from the bad environment and placed in a secluded boot camp or a boarding school to help the child get connected to his or her inner turmoil and understand the priorities in life. But why as parents you should ‘put' away your kid to a remote place, may be your grave concern. Let's look at the advantages of taking your troubled teen to a boarding school.

* Today for our children the strongest influence group is their peer group. The group that the teen associates them to fortunately or unfortunately develops or destroys their respective growth. Very rarely would you find a teen group where the children are responsible and mature. If your teenager is troubled, then the most important thing to do is to understand the peer group that he or she associates with. A negative influence for a prolonged period is detrimental towards the child's recovery. A boarding school helps by taking the troubled teen away from the negative environment.

* Learning values and responsibilities and being accountable comes next. Why would a troubled teen listen to parents and siblings whom he or she has grown up bullying or has seen give in to their every whim and demand? Professionally qualified people who know how to deal sensitively yet strongly with the troubles and turmoil in your child's mind is what your child desperately needs. A boarding school for troubled teen can provide you with that.

* A trouble teen needs someone who can analyze and understand his situation impartially and then help him. There are a number of issues with troubled teens starting from losing concentration at something to lying and being irresponsible. A boarding school will help your kid stay focused and not lose tracks.

* Behavior modification is paramount for a troubled teen. The curriculum for a boarding school is methodically designed to approach the cognitive and neuro-motor growth of the child.
