Many people ask me all the time how to easily get pregnant. Tips on trying to conceive need not involve complicated sex positions or elaborate fertility rituals. For many couples, increasing their fertility involves no more than making a few lifestyle changes. Studies show that most cases of unexplained infertility are due to unhealthy habits like smoking, lack of sleep, and bad diets. Here are a few basic changes you need to make if you want to help yourself get pregnant quickly.

Diet for reproductive health

Some foods can increase your chances of conceiving while others will aggravate any fertility problems you might have. Organic meats, whole grains, plant sources of protein, and full fat dairy can boost your fertility, according to Harvard University researchers. Keep your meals balanced and obtain foods from every food group. On the other hand, foods rich in trans-fats and refined sugar are detrimental to fertility. Eating more trans-fats means you get less omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for healthy cell membranes. On the other hand, refined sugar can cause your insulin levels to become imbalanced, which will delay ovulation.

Cut down on caffeine to ease your way to conception

Experts were initially divided on the effects of caffeine on fertility. Some saw no difference in caffeine consumption and fertility while others noticed that women who drank more caffeinated drinks had a harder time conceiving. In Harvard University's Nurses' Health Study, researchers finally reached a consensus - it's not caffeine per se that causes infertility, but the type of drink. For instance, soda aggravates fertility problems because of its sugar content. However, healthier sources of caffeine like green tea seem to make no difference. Just the same, it might be safer to limit your caffeine intake to a cup or two a day.

Exercise to boost your fertility

Aside from making you feel good and serving as a healthy distraction, exercise boosts fertility by promoting a balanced body weight. Estrogen production is tied to body fat, and too much or too little fat can upset the delicate balance required by the sex hormones. Make sure you don't over-exert yourself either; too much exercise will cause stress to your body and make it harder to conceive.

Get enough sleep when you are trying for pregnancy

Lack of sleep is also related to infertility. Our cells can only repair themselves when we sleep and over time, the lack of sleep will cause damage to bodily systems, including the reproductive system. A more direct relationship between sleep and fertility is sleep's effect on our internal body clock, the circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm helps the brain send messages to our hormonal system at certain times during the dame. An erratic sleep schedule throws your circadian rhythm off-timing, upsetting your hormones and making it difficult to get pregnant. Getting adequate sleep helps your body regulate this rhythm and allows your hormones to work properly.

Quit smoking to make conceiving easier

A single cigarette contains hundreds of chemicals, many of them known to cause infertility by upsetting the body's hormonal balance. Quit smoking the moment you decide you want a baby. Aside from aggravating infertility, the toxins in cigarette smoke stay in the body for a long time. Research shows that babies can inherit the toxins found in their mother's bodies, causing nervous system problems and increasing the risk for chronic disorders.
