The Nokia N85 has incredible five types of connectivity options, they are-3G HSDPA, Bluetooth, Micro USB Cable port, EDGE and WLAN Wi-Fi. The Nokia N96 also has five types of connectivity options, they are-3G HSDPA, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB Cable port, EDGE, WLAN Wi-Fi with UPnP Technology. It operates on the Quad Band technology network, Quad Band technology of GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 and WCDMA. Whereas the Nokia N85 has only Quad Band technology which operates on the GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 frequencies.

The Nokia N85 has the option for internet connection. Internet can be done by the Nokia Web Browser with Mini Maps, HTML,xHTML MP, CSS and WML. While on other hand, the Nokia N96 has three options for internet browsing, they are- Nokia Web Browser with Mini Maps, HTML, RSS Reader.

The Nokia N96 has seven variant types of messaging options, they are - SMS(Short Message Service) for text messages,MMS (Multimedia Messages) for illustrated messages, Email (in SMTP, IMAP4 and POP3), Email with attachments, popular picture messaging, instant messaging and predictive text messages. Whereas, the Nokia N85 has also has seven different types of messaging options, but these options are quite different from Nokia N96 options, they are-SMS (Short Message Service) for text messages, MMS (Multimedia Messages) for illustrated messages, Email in SMTP, IMAP and POP form, Email with attachments, Email with filtering, Wireless Email Support, Predictive text messages.
