Take Spanish lessons and then use them when you visit Costa Rica!
With over 130 miles of Caribbean coastline and over 630 miles of Pacific coastline,together with an almost ideal climate,Costa Rica is a wonderful place to make use of your Spanish.Whilst you are there you can enjoy Scuba Diving,fishing,white water rafting,golf,bird watching,hiking,horse riding or a host of other interesting activities but dont forget to pack your Spanish Dictionary.
Costa Rica is located between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south.It is split into two sides by a line of cordilleras (volcanic mountains) running vertically northwest to southeast.A large part of the population live in the Central Valley,which is a high altitude plain located within the range and has coastal lowlands on either side.
At the southern end of the Pacific coastline is the Osa Peninsula,which is widely recognised as the richest biological zone in Central America. Corcovado National Park is a virgin rainforest teeming with animal and plant life and with a crocodile infested lagoon at its centre.This beautiful place with miles of unspoilt beaches and waterfalls is an absolute must see!
Less than 30 miles off the southwest Pacific coast lies Cano Island,a wonderful site to enjoy adventure diving.Huge schools of fish swim in these waters where experienced divers may descend"Devil's Drop"which starts at 40 feet and bottoms out at over 250 feet.
The Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean coast is a myriad of canals and channels and is one of the most important breeding grounds of the Green Sea Turtle.During the months of July to September thousands of these animals visit the beaches to come ashore and lay their eggs.This whole area is rich in fauna and flora with over 500 different species of birds,over 100 different species of mammals and over 2000 different species of plants.
Costa Rica is a great place to go for fishing.The Caribbean coast has many fine lodges where sailfish,blue marlin,tarpon,snook,billfish,wahoo,dorado and other species can be caught.The Pacific coast has sailfish,marlin,yellowfin tuna,snapper,snook,blue and rainbow runners and an abundance of other species to attract anglers from many different countries.Costa Rica also has rivers and lakes to offer the freshwater fisherman.
The people of Costa Rica are friendly and welcoming and they try to make you feel at home.There are many good hotels and lodges from which it is possible to experience this fascinating country.Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world and is an ideal place for all age groups to appreciate its many attractions.
As in all Spanish speaking countries a knowledge of the language,however small will greatly enhance your stay.
