Business, This Is The Year I Am Looking Forward To

At last at last I am starting to see the odd glimmer of sense and reality in this whole economic debacle. The odd article here and there of how this next year is going to rebuild us all.

I totally agree!

Let me back track a little on this one .

Some 8 years ago I moved from Africa to live back in the UK. Quite a change you would say but one I had to make because of spiraling crime in S.Africa and a weariness of living in a heavily gated community. That is another story in itself.

I left the UK in 1982 and returned in 2001. I was shocked. The excesses of money spent on designer clothes, fancy cars, expensive holidays and decadence like I had never seen before. When I left Divorce was low when I returned it was 1 in 3 marriages. My neighbors who had ordinary jobs were buying new cars each year going on 2 overseas holidays a year and all bought on their cash machines of houses.

Dinner conversations inevitably came back to money, who was making what and who bought what house, it was tedious to say the least.

All around were people spending and spending.

I remember an acquaintance giving me a bag of clothes from her daughter as she had grown out of them. When I opened the bag and went through them 70 % had not been worn....some even had labels still attached... .I was shocked. This is the average Joe we are talking about not some celebrity who changes their fancy cars every few months and pay thousands for a ridiculous pair of shoes.

These ordinary families were buying a new sofa for their house each year, Putting in a new kitchen, new bathroom and what ever else that had to be new to be in the latest colors or designs . They were Spurred on by the numerous property programs advising on how to lift the value of their home.

Properties were like cash machines dominated by property programs and ceased to be homes in which we lived. Along came the celebrity chefs, the excessive eating out and drinking followed by Obesity. People became fat and people became judged on their money. You only have to look at UK football, the vulgarity in the way they flaunt their wealth as if trying to distance themselves from the rest of society.

Well I guess they probably have lower IQs and were slightly louder clothes which detached them in the first place anyway

The end of this will be good news for all.

So maybe will the end of the money lout in Britain.

When I left the UK in 1982 they did not really exist. When I returned in 2001 they were everywhere. Those who had the money and lacked the culture and populated the restaurants and other social habitats. Drunk and vulgar, it was hard to escape. If you are not sure of what I am talking about then take yourself off on a package Holiday to a popular resort in Spain and you will see what I mean.

So why am I looking forward to this year? With high costs of living on the horizon the high living will come down, perhaps people will become more moral and live a better life Maybe people will become more than just their wallets and be judged on who they are and not how much they have.

As we now watch the price of goods fall to rock bottom prices in the shops to lure us in, we wonder just how how much were we being ripped off in the first place?

The internet social sites are booming and what we would expect with people losing their jobs and having time to blog and chat. I believe that online businesses will flourish as more and more jobs disappear and people are stuck at home. As those job queues get longer and longer people are going to look for alternative sources of income knowing that jobs are few and far between.

For those of us with a business online the time is now, this is our year and it can only get better!
