Urinary tract infection is one of the common infectious health conditions, especially in females. The main cause responsible for development of urinary tract infection (UTI) is invasion of bacteria to urinary tract either through kidney bloodstream or through urethra. Due to natural body structure (rectum and vagina being very close to urethra) women are on higher risk of getting urinary tract infection. About half of the women populations suffer from UTI at least once in their life span. Though generally UTI is not serious it surely produces pain and discomfort.

Causes of UTI: Bacteria (that enters the urinary tract through urethra, Rectum or bloodstream) are the main culprits responsible for UTI. These bacteria cause infection in bladder and certain other segments of the urinary tract. Sex activity can increase the risk of bacterial infections as bacteria present in the vaginal region can be forced (pushed) towards urethra by penis motion. Women with polygamous sexual habits (changing sex partners frequently) are on higher risk of developing urinary tract infections than that of monogamous. Though such evidences are rare, certain women get infected with UTI after each sexual activity. Holding the urine for longer periods in bladder can be cause behind occurrence of UTI, in some cases. Not responding the urination call or holding the urine for longer periods can lead to weakening of the bladder muscles and result in incomplete release of urine and increase the risk of UTI. Certain other health conditions like diabetes, menopause and pregnancy may contribute towards occurrence of urinary tract infections.

Symptoms of UTI: Common sings and symptoms of urinary tract infections include uncontrollable urge to urinate, burning sensation or pain in urethra while releasing urine, release of very small quantity of urine (despite strong urge to urinate), appearance of blood with urine, soreness of lower abdomen, sides or back. If the bacteria enter the ureter and invade to kidney, one may experience symptoms like back pain, fever, nausea, chills and vomiting, in addition to the primary symptoms.

Treatment of UTI: Proper diagnosis plays an important role in treatment of UTI. Once the presence of infection is ascertained through clinical investigations, your physician will prescribe certain medications (usually antibiotics). Personal hygiene is also important in prevention and treatment of UTI. Certain alternative therapies and home made medications may provide desired results. Using liquid life supplements, and immune system enhancing and bacteria killing supplements, like colloidal silver and colloidal gold etc, can fasten the recovery and also protect you from recurrence of urinary tract infections.
