The term nervous breakdown" is not a medical term and is not listed as a psychiatric disorder in any medical text. It is a publicly (non-medically) coined term used in common language and speech to indicate a highly stressed state of mind.

A person having a nervous breakdown may have been greatly depressed or anxious for a long period of time before the breakdown. In extreme cases of breakdown, people also lose their awareness of reality, which is also known as impaired reality testing. Day to day activities and chores are seen as impossible tasks by nervous wrecks.

People suffer from various diseases. However, there are some which are fatal and there are some which consume you slowly and gradually. Mental breakdown or commonly known as Nervous breakdown is one such types. This is a common disease which is faced by many people all over the world.

Despite of being aware of this disease, the human race has been unsuccessful in finding a way to combat it. Being stressed out and depressed in today's world is not an exception. Rather, everyone in this world is somehow or the other depressed due to something. Well they have innumerable reasons but seldom any remedies. It is the tendency of humankind to land in problem and then it seeks help. But, everyone forgets that if there is a problem then there has to be a solution for it.

Helping Ourselves
Nervous breakdown in simpler terms is described as an acute attack of mental illness characterized by depression and anxiety. Once we are affected with mental breakdown then our morale goes down. The first thing we start with is lack self confidence. We start losing our energy and start wasting our time by pondering over stupid things. It is because our reasoning ability is heavily affected and we tend to misjudge things. Moreover the lack of motivation worsens the situation. Thus the control over us starts weakening.

At this point of time, we need to give extra effort and save ourselves by acting logically. As we know that during depression we tend to feel very low, so we need to rejuvenate ourselves and engage ourselves in other activities. Like a machine needs maintenance after some time, similarly our mind also needs a change. During the course of our life we completely neglect enjoyment and relaxation. Actually if we see then these two factors are the most important things to rejuvenate ourselves.

A stitch in time saves nine
So without worsening the situation further, it is necessary that we deal with the problem and prevent it from aggravating further. Taking timely rests and involving in one's favorite activities are some of the most effective measures to deal with the problem of nervous breakdown.
