Cardboard Shoe Boxes

Cardboard shoe boxes are used for more than just packaging shoes. They are also often used for sending food parcels and also for Christmas shoe box appeals. Christmas shoe box appeals often put toys in shoe boxes for children in hospital or in third world countries. Some charity's that run Christmas shoe box appeals are:

Samaritan's Purse
The Rotary Shoebox Scheme

Guidelines as to what to put in the shoe boxes are different for each scheme but some items to include are:

TOYS - something to love Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, a small bouncy ball, small musical instrument, balloons, simple jewellery, (for boys - trucks and cars, for girls - doll, clip-on earrings, make-up or hair accessories) etc.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES - something to do Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, rubber, colouring book,notepad, picture/puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, calculator, crayons, colouring book, a pair of scissors, small travel games etc.

HYGIENE ITEMS - something to use Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of wrapped soap, shampoo, deodorant, plasters, flannel etc.

OTHER ITEMS - something to eat or wear Sweets, chocolate (sell-by date to be at least March of following year), gloves, scarf. sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces, socks/tights etc.

When filled the shoe boxes are normally collected together into a local group before being collected and sent off to the national warehouse of the operation. These cardboard shoe boxes are then loaded onto lorries and sent to the needy people. So why not start a local group in your area and make a difference.
