Golf improvement exercises are a necessary part of the game these days if you expect to keep up with your competitors.

It seems as if most golfer's these days just want to play the game and aren't concerned about getting exercise. How do I know this? By several months of testing, asking questions and seeing the results come in.

Golf has become an increasingly popular sport over the past few years. You now see men and women of all ages at the golf course practicing their swing. "Relaxation" for many people is to simply go hit a bucket of balls if they don't have time to play the course.

Golf, like any sport, requires the consistent use of certain muscles in your back, neck, legs and hips. It's important that you exercise these muscles in order to keep them strong and prevent injury. However, unlike many "gym rats" that like to hang out at the local fitness centers and get buffed up by lifting weights, your goal is different and there are some exercises that can actually do you more harm than good. Read on.

First Things First

Make sure to stretch thoroughly before you perform any exercise. This is important in order to prevent injury and shorten your recovery time. In other words, keep you from being as sore.

When stretching you should stretch as if you were swinging a club. Imitate the motions and follow through all the way until you feel slight discomfort and hold it for 5-7 seconds, but DO NOT bounce. Bouncing can cause injury. Do two repetitions of each stretch and then reverse direction in order to achieve a full body benefit.

Stretching should last at least 10-15 minutes and you should have a "cool down" stretching session after finishing your workout. This will help to prevent soreness and muscle cramping. Don't overdo it! There's nothing more discouraging than hurting yourself when starting a workout routine. Take your time and pace yourself. Remember that your body is different than others and you need to build your workouts at your own pace. Remember that the competition is at the golf course, not in the gym.

You might consider hiring a golf fitness trainer, at least temporarily, in order to get you started on a regular workout schedule. Your trainer will be able to give you specific exercises to do and will also help you to map out different workout routines. You'll want to mix up your routines in order to workout your muscles evenly and not neglect anything of importance and also to keep your golf workouts interesting. After all, you really don't want to do the same routine every, single day, do you? A good golf fitness trainer can get you started in the right direction.

Regardless of which direction you take it's most important that you take action for the benefit of your health and your golf game. Pick up the phone or get off your rear end right now!
