There is a key essential skill missing from most article writers skillset and it is probably responsible for the greatest number of bashed keyboards and endless hours spent trying to figure out exactly how to format that pesky article so that it looks just right! So what is this skill and why do most bleary eyed article writers not have it nor use it? Is it something mysterious or secret that only the select few have access to? Is it monumentally difficult to acquire it?

Well actually its not a secret nor is it mysterious. In fact its right before us every day as we type our articles and submit them to online article directories. It hides behind every web page and it goes by the name Hypertext Markup Language or HTML. This is the missing skill. The reasons for this are many but one of the main ones cited is that HTML is hard to use and learn and only techies use it. This is in fact a dangerous myth as it stops article writers from mastering a skill that will not only help them in their article writing but will also be a useful general purpose skill for all things internet related.

So how can a simple knowledge of html make a difference to article writing? Well, here are just three of the many benefits:

* many article directories allow the use of html tags which provides more flexibility in how articles are presented

* providing good links in articles becomes easy with a knowledge of html tags

* html is the language of the web and all web pages are based on it - mastering html gives mastery over web pages (after some practice)

To summarise: most article writers could benefit from a knowledge of html and once this knowledge is acquired it can be used not just for article writing but also for day to day web usage.
