Flirting. Many associate it with dating, the unconscious courtship ritual we go through when looking for perspective mates. But do you know it can be used for more than that. The more you're aware of these signals, the ones you send out and how they are received by other people, the more successful you can make their use by picking the ones that work best in a situation. Here are some tips to help you get started. Number one, flirting is all about making the other person feel good. You have to start off right by being confident and feeling good about yourself. This will be transmitted to the other person. They are going to take your compliments with a lot more validity if they are coming from a solid foundation. Just as negative emotions are apparent, so are the positive ones. More so because negative emotions and self-image tend to be more prevalent. Making a good impression comes naturally. Take the time to find out how you can make the other person feel comfortable, at ease. Flirting is all about making the person you're with feel good, take the time to learn what that takes. It'll go a long way to making your flirting that much more effective.

Flirting can be something as simple as smiling. By smiling, a person can send a whole set of signals that say, I'm approachable, and friendly. Often times, that will encourage someone to say hi. Relax, most people walk right past statues, no matter how bright a smile you've got. If you're stiff, all you're doing is giving off mixed signals. One saying I'm approachable the other saying no I'm not. More often than not, people will avoid you in this situation, so relax. If you come across someone who gets a little too close for comfort (there are those who don't understand the concept of personal space), avoid tensing up and just carefully move away. If you find someone of the opposite, the kind who scream "leave me alone", be gentle. These people will often guide you, unknowingly, to the best way of approaching them.

Patience is a virtue, especially in flirting. If one method doesn't work, try another. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Every one does while they are learning to be successful, and few get it right the first time around. Another good way to see how your approach works is to try it first on a friend and ask them what they think. Flirting should seem a spontaneous and natural action to work well. Practice can help you determine if you're approach works before you try it out in the field. Finally, dive in first and follow through, making the first move goes a long way to making you successful, and follow through with body language, make eye contact, smile. Being open, especially with gestures of approval or understanding can make a person feel more secure.
