What is Known as Seborrhoeic Eczema?
Seborrhoeic eczema sometimes also known as scalp eczema begins on the scalp and subsequently can spread; although the disorder is not contagious but to other people it can move on an infected person. Scalp eczema is consider as one of the most common types of skin disorders. As scalp is more prone to skin disorders as compared to other parts of the body because it is exposed to oil and grease produced by the hair follicles. In addition, hormonal changes can also trigger scalp eczema in most people.
Seborrhoeic eczema may initial appear on the scalp and look more like a case of dandruff. It mainly appears in people between the ages of 20 to 40. Many people that develop seborrhoeic eczema can manage the condition with a medicated shampoo.
As seborrhoeic eczema spreads it can emerge as the dandruff is getting worse and thicker on the scalp, the skin below becomes red and irritated and sometimes hair loss can also occur in the areas affected, but it will usually re-grow once the condition is brought under control.
Seborrhoeic eczema can subsequently spread onto the face and some even behind the ears where it can become extremely severe. The area behind the ears can develop a thick appearance with scaly patches that flake off. To some people the area around the eyes can also become infected and eyebrows can develop more of the patchy thick scale.
Mild cases of scalp eczema are uncomplicated to treat. In most cases, it can be treated with simple skin regimens like using a mild shampoo and using scalp moisturizers on a daily basis. You should also try to limit the number of showers in a day because taking too many showers can cause skin dryness. According to experts, a balanced diet that contains plenty of fruits and vegetables can help hydrate the skin. Do try to avoid eating junk food as junk food contains lot of salt and fats which are not good for the body.
Though moderate cases of scalp eczema can be rather uncomfortable but it is usually not a cause for alarm. Try to add oil into each bath to moisturize the scalp and use moisturizer immediately after taking a bath.
Nevertheless there are medications available that can help treat seborrhoeic eczema and a physician should be consulted if there is a concern that this is a condition that a person has. Medicated shampoos in this case can help keep the condition in control and help keep it from spreading. For the reason that the disorder is associated with an auto-immune response, there may not be a cure for seborrhoeic eczema however there are many ways to keep the condition in control.
