Suitcases: What Suitcase Fits You
There are no well-defined criteria, but the right suitcase is one that:
1) Makes you feel comfortable traveling with
2) Will survive the trip and your destination's environment
3) Will protect its contents from harm and damage
4) Fits your needs, your style, your personality
The first one is something you'll need to think about if you value your poise, fashion, and how you carry yourself. Do you want to avoid exerting much effort in transporting luggage? Then suitcases with telescopic handles are right for you. Are you the type of person who wants to look formal and classy, without funky "look-at-me!" designs? Then dark, formal suitcases made of rich leather or similar material fits the bill. Some people may call these suitcases "drab" and ordinary, but hey, it's just simple classy form and function.
Or are you looking for more "fun" suitcases? Most ladies and some men tend to go for more curves, prints, and shades in their luggage -- in short, suitcases that are out of the ordinary. And if you're traveling with kids, you can buy them suitcases that they themselves will be comfortable with -- such as luggage that double as toys (kids can even ride on some models!).
Items two and three on our short list revolve around the suitcase's construction and material. Here are some tips to help you:
1) Do you plan to travel a lot with one suitcase, or are you transporting fragile material? Buy a suitcase with a hard cover.
2) Do you see yourself touring around the destination with your suitcase, for whatever reason (e.g. scouting for good accomodations)? Buy a smaller and lightweight suitcase.
3) Is your destination a rainy one, or are you planning to make the trip during the rain? Choose the suitcase with waterproofing technology.
4) When buying a suitcase with wheels, pick the model with wheels larger than those of other luggage. Larger wheels can absorb a longer time of use and abuse.
5) Go for a suitcase with larger than usual zippers. Larger zippers are easier to handle and more durable than smaller ones.
6) If you're traveling with a laptop, make sure your suitcase has a built-in compartment for the device, or better yet, buy a separate bag for it. Laptop bags are designed to protect and carry the device better than the usual kinds of luggage.
Just remember, while you might have bought the "right" suitcase, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the "perfect" suitcase. That's okay -- after all, nothing's perfect in this world. Many suitcase models displayed on the stores are already good, but can be even made better by purchasing suitcase accessories. These accessories both have decorative and practical uses; they can ease the carrying, help in identification, or add security to your suitcases.
