Carriers who operate trucks or related vehicles in some states must complete all fuel tax licensing and reporting. IFTA is often included into those reports and some of its member states around the United States and in Canada. Any IFTA carriers must have a license for fuel tax reporting.

If you are, traveling in states that have the fuel tax licensing and reporting laws, then must have established a business, maintained a mileage record for that area, and have those records available. You must also register to qualify with the motor vehicles and must have operated in one other IFTA jurisdiction. This determines your base state.

Under the IFTA requirements, payments are made to the home office in which the office will distribute payments through other home bases. For your vehicle to qualify you must travel to and from two IFTA jurisdictions. You must also have gross weight and that weight must be registered; and it must combine the gross weight in excess of 26k pounds or have three or so axles on power units despite of its gross weight; or it must be a bus that is made to carry up to 20 or more passengers.

Some states require motor vehicles that use certain fuels, such as propane, natural gas, diesel, etc to obtain a license for fuel tax reporting. In other areas, you must have a license if you operate a gasoline-powered vehicle.

In order to get a license you will need to fill out an application. Some software's are available online, in which we are confident that you use the services to obtain an application. The application includes both vehicle decals and license so you will be applying for both. Check your state to find out who is the party that mails the renewal applications. The renewal applications are sent out automatically most times. If you did not get your renewal application, you will need to contact the proper channels to get their phone number. Don't delay; otherwise, there may be some penalties that apply.

In some states, the decals come in a pack of two for each vehicle that qualifies. One of the decals is positioned on both sides of your vehicle on the doors. It costs vary per decal set depending on what area you are traveling. To find out more about fuel tax licensing and reporting go online today.
