Preventing Diaper Rash

If your baby has diaper rash, you'll know it once you open baby's diaper and see redness on baby's bottom. That redness may be accompanied with pimples or blisters in bad cases of diaper rash. It appears on the child�s bottom, genitals and in the creases of the leg.

Causes of Diaper Rash: Almost every baby gets diaper rash at some time or another. When diaper rash occurs, it isn't because of parental neglect. It's normal for a baby to get diaper rash. The following are a list of common causes of diaper rash:

-sensitivity to stool

-sensitivity to particular brands of diapers

-sensitivity to detergent used to wash cloth diapers

-dirty diaper left on too long

-diapers that are too small

-bacterial infection

Diaper Rash Treatment: To treat diaper rash, it is important to keep the affected area cool and dry. Do this by changing wet or soiled diapers promptly. After you wipe the rash area clean, let the area air dry before applying any ointment. Other ways to treat diaper rash include:

-pat or blot the affected area when you change the diaper and make sure to get all the stool and urine

-use a diaper rash cream

-soak your baby's bum in warm soapy water

Preventing Diaper Rash: To prevent diaper rash, you can:

-change soiled diapers frequently

-allow the skin to dry completely before putting on another diaper

-buy a different brand of diapers

-use diaper rash cream regularly

-do not put the diapers on too tight

-change brands of detergent used to wash cloth diapers
