When we get really white teeth after a whitening treatment we will need to think about our lifestyle to maintain the results and keep the teeth healthy.
It is difficult to argue that having a new set of bright white teeth looks fabulous but how do we keep them that way so here we look at the details. A smile is free so for many who have really yellow teeth this can be a daunting act as they are so embarrassed on their teeth and the yellowy colour they do not smile as much as they would like.
In some cases even the hand goes over the mouth to cover up the smile which is a real shame as smiling to anyone you meet is natural and gets a reciprocal result in most cases!
The teeth will change colour over the course of a few years as the things we smoke, eat and drink will change their colour and make them look unhealthy and dull as well as looking darker in colour. This is hard to avoid as just about everything has some level of staining components which will darken the teeth. The mouth breaks down the juices in food and drinks and this leaves the coloration to filter in to the pores of the enamel and this is what changes the teeth's colour. Now unless you drink water and white bread for the rest of your life then the teeth are open to changing colour.
The good news is that whitening will change the colour back to the natural whitish colour you was born with in your adult life. This change needs to explained a little more.
As we explained earlier on the change to the teeth's colour is gradual and therefore the reverse can take a little effort and time especially if you are unfortunate enough to accumulate deep staining due to the enamel wearing or just having more porous teeth than the average person. This will need to tackled over a period of time to reverse this colour so do not expect instant results and pure white results because it takes time and sometimes even a combined treatment like laser or zoom whitening plus the tray system to really get deep in the enamel to eliminate the deep staining in pores.
Now after and during any whitening treatment you will need to reduce the known foods and drinks as you will have an idea what is staining your teeth based on the consumption levels and regularity etc. Once you know this then reduce it because this combined with good dental health like brushing and flossing will really help keep the teeth white in colour.
Lastly use a gritty whitening paste once per week and this will help too keep the surface staining away and maintain the smile. Lastly use a whitening product once every few weeks to eliminate any future staining and this combined will keep the teeth white but it will take effort but will be worth it!
