How To Install a Dimmer Switch

Installing a dimmer switch can allow you changing the mood of the room in a more important way than you might have imagined, and it can allow you to be in different environments without moving from one room to other. Being able to control the lighting can be a great addition to the comfort of the house or room, since you could be able to soften the lights when you wish to be more relaxed or brighten them up when you need to read.

When knowing the right cautions, guidelines and steps, you could install a dimmer switch within about half an hour. But, if you are not sure how to do it or how to handle electrical devices, you should as an expert for help. Although installing a dimmer switch can be very easy, it can also be very risky when not following the right procedures regarding power and electricity.

Before you start installing a dimmer switch, you must make sure the main power box of the house is off. Even when you are sure it is off, you should use a neon tester to make sure there is not power in the wires before touching them. Once you are absolutely sure of this, you are ready to start with the installation itself.

Most dimmer switches come with specific instructions that might vary from one to the other, so you should read those guidelines in detail and follow them according to the product you have. Once you have removed unscrewed the old switch from the wall and made sure the power circuit is off and therefore it is safe to work with the wires, you should disconnect the wires from the old switch.

Then, follow the guidelines detailed within the instructions of your dimmer switch in order to properly install it. Once the wires are correctly connected according to the instructions, place the switch into place and tighten the screws. Then, you are ready to install the plate of the new dimmer switch over it and make sure everything looks right on place and firm.
