When your pregnant it's hard to imagine this little bundle of joy, so procrastinating when it comes time to find a doctor for your little one is more common then you might think. It is really important to find a physician before your little one is born. Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting the right physician for your baby.

If this is your first baby this can get confusing especially when there are so many different kinds of doctors to choose from.

Like the family doctor whom can see you for your problems as well as your babies. If you have older children, or a large family this is your best bet. You can usually group your Dr. appointments together so if all your kids get sick at the same time then this makes it easier not having to run to 2 different Dr. offices, as well as taking the kids with you to your exams, the children will sometimes be more comfortable having the same Dr.

There is also the pediatrician whom specializes only in babies, children, and depending on the Dr. sometimes early adolescence. The benefit to a pediatrician is they have advanced training in dealing with babies and children. A family doctor has this same training but not to the intensity that a pediatrician does. If you have children close in age, or this is your first baby then I would recommend a pediatrician.

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the right doctor. You should do some investigating and maybe go and visit the Dr. office to see if it seems like a good environment to you or not. Here are just a few.

A nice recommendation is finding a doctor within a couple of miles of you. You don't need to make traveling to the doctor a major event, for you and your baby. You will be going to the doctor every few months until your baby is 18 months and sometimes even more if baby is sick. So keep distance in mind when selecting your Dr.

When you find a location you like then look into the Dr's credentials. Make sure all his medical exams and licensing are legitimate. You can even make an appointment with some Dr's to see if you like them or not. You can write down some questions and ask the Dr. at the interviews. Some Dr's charge for an interview, some don't, it really just depends on the Dr.

It would be nice to have a Dr that is affiliated with a hospital so if there is an emergency, care is better and they can access the proper files for treatment, sometimes your Dr can even help out, or come to the hospital to help with treating your child in case of an emergency, if your Dr. is available.

These are just some of the things to consider when choosing a Dr. of course some things like wait time or a snotty receptionist, or simply not agreeing with your Dr. aren't things you can really experience until your babies first Dr. appointment. We all don't have as many choices in health care as maybe we would like. We have to go to whatever Dr. that accepts our insurance, and sometimes our choices can be limited. Just make sure you are comfortable and you have proper care for your baby. Good Luck finding a Doctor.
