Money, Money, Money

Money is the god of the masses.
Without it most can't cope.
By it many are numbed
As if they were on dope.
Money, money, money
Is that all life is about
If so, God take me out
I can't it any more
Life has become a bore
Greed contaminates to the core
Dollar signs demonically allure
Not every get rich quick scheme
Is solid, for sure, nor the cure
For mismanaged time and energy.
A green statue of liberty
Is undoubtedly our national effigy
The American way is prosperity
Wealth accumulation and dispersion
"I want. I need. I must have..."
Without which people get mad
How pitiful and truly sad
Is it when people quit
Living to love and love to acquire
Things to compensate for
Their deadly lack of desire
For love and a life of service
Such a mentality I must divorce
As I cannot have discourse
On getting and being encumbered
By lots of stuff for vanity and fluff
Sorry if my speech seems gruff
But I cannot be troubled
By things of little consequence
Neither can I nicely acquiesce
For silence is as approving entirely
Consumerism I resist defiantly
"Buy me this! Buy me that!"
Than if you don't get, you start a spat
Fidgety as a improperly pet cat
Comparing with others
Fighting with sisters and brothers
Competing and clamoring
For the latest new and improved
When that which you've got
Has hardly been even used
Oh now, your's is out of style
Why is it you easily defile
And are so readily beguiled
By those who diminish and depreciate
That which you once thought was great?
Will this be your life legacy and fate
Being known as the snarling ingrate?
Money, money, money
Things, things, things
What a ghastly disease
You clutch for things
And forget to say please
Thank you is far removed
From your daily vocabulary
Unappreciative and demanding
You push through when you're shopping
Disregarding people to get your goodies
Using credit cards, paying exorbitant fees
Disregarding debt, leaving that for Daddy
Stay at home wives have their hubby
After all, shopping is your right
God forbid if you don't do so, you fight
Pitch a violent fit until you get it
No time to just listen and sit
Forget people, gotta go get greenbacks
Which ironically will soon have a heart attack
The devaluation of your currency
Will suddenly slap you back
But as for now, you know it all
And with money seem to stand tall
Your covetous heart however
Will eventually be made known to all
And your greed become your downfall.
