Now that we have officially entered the final month of the year, it's always fun to look back and consider what music you ended up listening to the most, what was the best movie you saw, the best book that you read...
I will kick start the discussion by listing my favorites - I would love to see some of yours!
Best CD - Thinking back over the year, the CD that stayed in my car the longest (and still gets played) would be Sky Blue Sky by Wilco. Alt-Country had a big year in 2007, and of everything I heard my three to choose from also included Easy Tiger from Ryan Adams and West by Lucinda Williams. But the Wilco CD to me is just brilliant, and I'm still not tired of hearing it.
Favorite Film - This came out in 2006, but I hadn't heard of it until a co-worker mentioned it - The Painted Veil with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. The story is good, the acting is good, but the film itself is just visually stunning to look at. I ended up watching it three times before I'd known it, and have suggested it to several people since. No Country For Old Men will probably be my favorite as soon as i can see it a few more times.
Favorite Book - Confessions by Leo Tolstoy. This book really struck a chord with me - certainly because he was about my age when he wrote it, and it deals with his quest for life's purpose and meaning - something I've questioned a lot this past year. I also could not help but think of Ernest Hemmingway while I read it - and found myself wondering if he too had met this crossroad in life with such difficulty and uncertainty.
Ok, folks - your turn! Share your favorites so we all have new lists of music, movies and books to check out!
