The Benefits of Hardwood Windows
When making plans to redesign or renovate your home, don't forget to make plans for the windows! Windows attract the attention of guests and visitors both from the inside and the outside. So be sure to choose something that match the overall look and feel of the entire house.
There are several types of windows to choose from. A window consists of 3 main components - the frame, the glass, and the accessories. Accessories here refer to the handles, the locks and the hinges. For each component, you will need to choose the type of materials, and decide on the design.
If you would like to have a more traditional design, you may wish to consider installing windows with wooden frames. In general, there are two types of wood available - softwood and hardwood. Some examples of softwood are Douglas fir, pine, cedar and redwood. Types of hardwood include iroko, oak and mahogany.
The main difference between the two categories of wood is that hardwood is more durable when compared to softwood and also hardwood is chosen for the beauty of it's grain. As hardwood is the more popular choice, it also comes with a heftier price tag.
When it comes to design, wood is the better choice if you are going for a more traditional style. By nature, wood creates a more relaxing ambience. So when you install hardwood windows, they tend to give your house a comfortable feel.
Usually, for most hardwood window designs, a minimalist approach is best. Although it is possible to create complex designs out of hardwood, many homeowners find that simple designs look more elegant, and they cost less to create. As hardwood windows are meant to last for many years to come, a simple look ensures that the design remains classic and will never go out of date.
But if you insist on certain designs, hardwood is versatile enough to accommodate your needs and wants. Under skilful hands, intricate or complex designs can be created from hardwood. You can choose English or European designs if you like.
Don't forget the accessories that go with your windows. The tiny locks and handles matter as well, and they come in many different designs. When you have simple window frames, handles with intricate designs can make all the difference. That is because the patterns tend to stand out against simple looking window frames. If you have window frames with complex designs, be careful not to spoil the designs with mismatching handles.
In summary, hardwood windows are very durable and versatile. They can come in a wide variety of designs, and can withstand wear and tear very well. They are also very easy to clean and maintain. Although they cost a little bit more, they outlast softwood windows and are worth every penny.
