Pros often talk having instinct or a feel for the game. Many of the top players admit to having a sixth sense when it comes to putting their opponent on a hand. You could read all the books in the world but never develop instinct. How are you supposed to develop your feel for the game? Some players will go their whole life without knowing how to read hands. Other players will play for a few years and know exactly what their opponent is holding. What is the secret the separates the good players from the great players? Most people make the mistake of playing above their bankroll. The allure of money and innate greediness leads players to the higher limits. Players who are playing with money they can't lose are always going to lose. It is very difficult to play with money that you can't afford to lose. In order to develop your instinct, you have to play at a level where you can trust your reads. Play at a level where you can make big bluffs on the river and make calls with third pair.

Developing instinct requires you to sacrifice some short-term profits to improve your skills over the long run. Logging thousands of hands playing online poker is a great way to develop instinct. Many professional poker players honed their game online at a very rapid rate. It is estimated that the average online poker player sees eight times more hands than the live player. Online players see more hands and are able to learn that much faster. Force yourself to get inside your opponent's head and put him on a hand. At first, you will make a lot of mistakes and be frustrated. Over time, you will make fewer and fewer mistakes. Eventually you will reach a level where your opponents are basically telling you what they are holding. Develop your instinct and you will destroy your opponents.
