Weight loss should not be your only objective when it comes to following a lifestyle that is filled with health and fitness. Most often people are under the misconception that if you are thin you are healthy. A lot of people follow unhealthy crash diets and unreasonable workout patterns to lose excess weight. But eventually they end up causing harm to their system. A few rules can help you maintain a lifestyle that is filled with health and fitness. Discussed below are a five rules you should make a part of your life:

Rule 1: Diet

Most people go on a diet because they want to lose weight. They take on crash diets that are not enough to satiate the amount of nutrients required by the body and are left feeling tired and lethargic all day. In order to maintain a life that is full of energy one must follow a diet that is rich in all the nutrients that the body requires. Cutting calories is essential, however substituting it with proteins is also a must. You should ideally consult a nutritionist to understand what diet suits you the best depending on your lifestyle.

Rule 2: Exercise

You cannot achieve your health and fitness objective by just following a simple diet. You have to compliment it with some exercise. Physical activity in any form should be made a part of your lifestyle to see positive results. If working out at the gym is not your style, you can easily take on exercise programs like boot camp training. There are a number of unconventional ways to stay fit - dancing, participating in group sports and yoga can be great ways to stay in shape.

Rule 3: No Smoking

Smoking is definitely one thing you should avoid in totality. It not only harms your system in the long run but it affects your lungs and kills your stamina. If you are a smoker you will have to get rid of the habit if you wish to maintain a healthy life.

Rule 4: Water

Water is necessary for the body if you want to stay in the pink of health always. Water helps in flushing out all the harmful toxins from the body and ensures that all the nutrients are carried to the required places in the body. Water also acts as an appetite suppressant in many cases. 8 - 10 glasses of water are a must for a healthy life.

Rule 5: Monitor your progress

Before you take on any health and fitness program it is imperative that you have a goal in mind. Ideally you should speak with an expert - your personal trainer or nutritionist will help you define a goal for yourself and also help you build a strategy. When you have a goal in mind you can work towards achieving it with unwavering focus. However you should not lose sight and monitor your progress on a regular basis.

Following these five simple rules can help you tremendously. They are simple and all you need is absolute dedication. By making unconventional fitness programs like boot camp training and pilates a part of your lifestyle you can achieve happiness and health really quickly.
