If you just moved to a new town, or started school in a new city, it's often hard to replace your well known, well experienced hangout, where you spent all of those nights with your favorite people, and felt right at home. If you feel like you might never find that again, don't worry, this guide will help you find your new spot, whether it's a bar, a bowling alley, or a coffee shop.

1. Scope out your area. Is there a certain part of town that draws you to it? Like in Boston, I was always drawn to the North End. It's a quaint little world that is seemingly in its own little world. There are so many mom and pop shops whose quality of service puts any chain to shame. There's one specific cigar bar whose old-school charm just calls me into it every time I'm in the area. It has a laid back vibe that is unparalleled to any other spot in town. Shop around, make it an event, and check out a different spot every Friday or Saturday until you find the one that speaks out to you.

2. If you're getting your graduate degree, or are back in school, use your resources. Are there any students in your class that seem really cool, or like you'd get along well? If so, go out on a limb, and ask them for their advice on where to get a great cup of coffee, or hear some live music. Who knows, maybe you'll make a new friend while you're at it!

3. Find a comfortable spot. Of course, part of having the perfect spot, is it's comfort level. That's what can make or break a bar or java joint into the bar, or the java joint. Does the suspect spot have a big comfy couches, or extra tall stools? Whatever is important to you in the comfort factor, like cushions, size or color, should be considered prior to choosing your new spot.

If you're feeling nervous or uncomfortable about your new city or town, because you're missing your old coffee spot, or meeting area with your friends, don't be. Every town has hidden gems that are just waiting to be discovered! So get out there, and find your comfy chair today.
