Designing Your Perfect Dining Room

When decorating your dining room you need to decide on the style you prefer and how you plan to use the room. You need to think about how formal or informal you want the room to be. Whether you choose formal or informal, when you decorate you have to take into consideration things like flooring, lighting, comfort, and decor.

Hardwood floors softened by rugs are best in dining rooms. This is because carpet is not good at withstanding dropped food and spillage. Also, carpet can become worn with the repetitive pushing in and out of chairs.

Dining room lighting should emphasize the table. Make the lighting bright enough so that diners can see what they are eating, but low enough for a relaxed mood. The most comfortable lighting arrangement is to have adequate ambient lighting from recessed lights which are controlled by a dimmer switch. This will allow you to turn down the main lighting once diners are seated.

Comfort is important when decorating your dining room. It is important that you create a space that makes you and your family comfortable. Start with comfortable chairs. When purchasing chairs make sure you try to spend some time sitting in the chairs. Padded chair seats are definitely comfortable. You can select an upholstered chair or a thick tie on cushion. Make sure the upholstery or cushion is stain resistant.

Finally, the one thing every dining room needs is a centerpiece. Use your personal style and creativity in selecting the perfect centerpiece. You can use a small basket holding a pyramid of crystal balls or a collect of different sized candlesticks grouped together.

Whether you dine formally or informally, the dining room is one of the easiest rooms in the house to decorate because it serves a definite purpose. If you are not sure where to begin, continue with the style you already have in your home. With these tips and your creativity you will be on your way to designing your perfect dining room.
