There is the post pregnancy hair loss. About three months after delivery, many hairs are fallen-out. However, post pregnancy hair loss is not permanent because the hair usually resumes the normal cycling pattern over a period of months.

Studies show that zinc and iron levels are necessary in maximizing hair growth. Iron and zinc deficiency may also cause thinning of the hair in some women. Although this condition may be quite rare, it affects the whole scalp.

Hypothyroidism, also known as myxoedema, and hyperthyroidism or the having an overactive thyroid gland also cause hair loss in women.

Major or other chronic illnesses like discold lupus erythematosus and psoriasis to name a few may be the cause of increased hair loss. Women undergoing chemotherapy will also experience hair loss during treatment. Although in most cases, hair loss will reverse a few months after recovery.

The use of some hair dyes and also excessive brushing may boost breakage of hair so as to have a sense of thinning of hair. There are also certain hairstyles that apply traction and pull the hair for long periods of time usually which cause a condition called traction alopecia.

Whatever the cause of excessive hair loss a woman might be experiencing, she must not lose hope. With correct treatments and hair replacements, appropriate for the underlying conditions, hair loss problems will recover.
