As a title fight in the mobile phone world, Nokia vs. Blackberry is about as exciting as it would come. Not only are both giants in their respective fields but, ever since Nokia debuted their N-series smartphones, they have been in direct competition for control over the entire smartphone market. As things stand, there is no clear winner, nor will there be for quite some time as, with every new generation of mobile phones that pop up, the tide seems to shift back and forth.

Comparing Features of the Nokia N95 8GB and Blackberry Curve 8320

For many mobile phone users, the first thing that is noticed about a mobile phone is its size. In this, there is no clear decision between the Nokia N95 8GB and the Blackberry Curve 8320.  Although the Blackberry Curve 8320 is much slimmer, it is also wider and longer, making the difference in thickness seem slightly less impressive. Neither phone is overly chunky, really, but both are certainly not as slim as some of their counterparts, as is acceptable from a smartphone.

It only takes a look at the display screen of both mobile phones to see that the Nokia N95 8GB clearly trumps the Blackberry Curve 8320 in that regard. Where the Nokia N95 8GB has a 2.6 inch display that is about the same size as a Blackberry Curve 8320's, the huge difference that comes into play is that the former uses 16 million colours as opposed to the 65,000 of the latter.

Not stopping there, the Nokia N95 8GB also asserts its dominance with the 5.0 megapixel camera that comes with it, complete with Tessar lens, Carl-Zeiss optics, flash, auto red-eye reduction and 20x digital zoom. Not much the Blackberry Curve 8320 can do but sit back and stare with its very modest 2.0 megapixel camera. Storage produces another clear win in the Nokia N95 8GB's favour, as it does, predictably, carry a massive 8GB of internal storage that the 64 MB of the Blackberry Curve 8320 simply cannot match.

One area where the Blackberry Curve 8320 does actually have an advantage is with its keyboard. For all the power and features of the Nokia N95 8GB, it does not have the flexibility of a keyboard like that of the Blackberry Curve 8320. Although this is not too big a deal, it can inconvenience some who prefer having a keyboard as an option.

All things considered, it must be admitted that the Nokia N95 8GB is at a clear and distinct advantage when compared to the Blackberry Curve 8320. That said, the keyboard factor is one that invariably could halt it from progressing as far as it deservedly should, and more the pity for it.

On the flipside, the Blackberry Curve 8320 is completely out of its league when up against the N95. Perhaps other Blackberry models that are much more feature intense would do better in competition with it.

For now, it would seem that the choice is between fantastic features or a keyboard, tough decision really, especially if a keyboard is something that anyone has grown used to having on their mobile phone.
