Americans Can Still Use Credit Cards for Online Gambling

The anti-internet-gambling law has made it very difficult for Americans to gamble online. It prevents credit card companies from transferring deposits directly to internet casinos, poker sites, and sports betting sites. After the law went into effect, many of these web sites decided to ban U.S. citizens, which made it even more difficult.

Initially, Americans were able to use internet payment companies, such as NETeller and Click2Pay, but eventually they also stopped registering U.S. citizens. Americans could still mail payments in by check or money order, but most people did not want to wait for the mail.

Some internet gambling sites still accept U.S. credit cards, by processing the transactions through different merchant accounts, so that the charges do not appear to be for internet gambling. Other sites will accept pledges for deposits on line, and then rush out to personally collect the funds in cash, which avoids using credit cards altogether.

One particular web site, which includes sports betting, poker, and casino games, accepts American credit cards, as long as the customer provides his or her account information by telephone. This prevents any automatic internet search robot, used by investigators or government officials, from finding evidence of a web page for Americans to use their credit cards for online gambling. A disclaimer form must also be filled out by the customer, which relieves the web site from any legal responsibility related to U.S. credit card misuse.
