For a long time I was torn.
I wanted desperately to achieve my goals and dreams and live the life that I felt I deserved, but wasn't getting anywhere. On one hand, I would hear success gurus talk about the importance of taking action towards your goals and not being one of those lazy people who build castles in the sky but refuse to take action towards achieving their dreams. On the other end, I would hear other success gurus saying that surrendering and letting go of your desires was the best way of manifesting abundance in your life.
What the bleep was going on here?
I knew of many people, who would talk all day of their dreams, and of being wealthy, but in the end, they took no action, and wound up being in the same place, either because they were lazy, unfocused, they were trying to impress me and others, or they were simply just scared. I didn't want to be any of these things, especially not lazy, so I set out to manifest abundance in my life.
Fueled with the energy of desperation, I did a lot of study on the Law of Attraction by buying books, watching documentaries, etc. I struggled, I toiled and I took action, all while trying desperately to keep the vision of what I wanted to manifest in my head at all times.
However, despite all my efforts, the only thing I was able to manifest was frustration.
Did I mention how desperate I was...oh yeah, I did.
When I then tried to find out why I wasn't getting anywhere, people I would talk to would tell me that I needed to let go and surrender. They would tell me that reason that I wasn't getting anything was that I was too desperate.
The thing was, I didn't want to surrender, because I felt "surrendering" and "letting go" meant that I was giving up on my dreams. One knew that there many things that people could say that I was, but one of them wasn't a "quitter". Also, I didn't want to be one of those "lazy" people that successful people looked down upon who desired their lives to be a certain way but did nothing and subsequently got nothing, and wound up complaining that they lives stayed the same year after year.
Suffice to say, surrender was out of the question for me.
Then one day it happened. I hit rock bottom. Nothing in my life was working, everything seemed to be falling apart at the seams, and I had nowhere to turn. In frustration, having no other options, I threw my hands up in the air and said, "God, I give up, its all in your hands."
This was my key to understanding "surrender".
People misunderstand that "letting go" and "surrendering" in the context of manifesting abundance does not necessarily mean giving up on your dreams, rather it means surrendering to the Divine and letting Him manifest your desires in His own way and own time. It means BELIEVING that whatever you desire you will manifest, but on its own timing and in its own way.
It's acknowledging that we have no control how things come to us.
Think about it, we have no control over the weather, but we know sooner or later, that its going to change and the seasons come and go.
There's a process to everything, we just have to surrender ourselves to that process. We have to stop fighting against it and join it.
We are to intend and visualize what we want, yes. But when we're desperate about it, it shows that we don't trust in the Creator to manifest our dreams for us. It shows that we have no trust in the process. All this serves to drive our desires FURTHER from us, not closer.
The right way to go about things is to visualize and intend what we desire, surrender, let go, and allow ourselves to be guided towards our goal, with no attachment of how its going to come. Think about when we bake a cake: we mix all the ingredients together in a pan, put it in an oven and LET the baking process take its course. In essence, we surrender to the baking process.
This is one of the keys to manifesting abundance.
