Quitting Smoke: Tips on How to Keep Holidays, Parties, and Drinking Smoke Free!

Smoking goes well with alcohol as alcohol lowers inhibitions, but this combo is certainly not good for a person who is working towards quitting smoke. Once you have your glass in hand, your deep cravings start getting active…..just for tonight….it is okay! Such has been the ruin of many a good quitting efforts. Holidays, parties, events, clubs, bars and other such places and events are responsible for making you weak in your smoking endeavors.

This year too many such events and places are awaiting you with the start of December…the festive season. So are you ready to combat all such weaknesses and come out as a winner. If not then here are some ideas which will help you to keep your holidaying and partying smoke free. Preparation will fortify your resolve and will allow you to meet challenges with confidence.

Don't Drink

The simple solution is avoiding alcohol entirely. Drink cranberry juice with seltzer water or another non-alcoholic drink of choice. No one but you and the bartender will know the difference!!

Keep within Limits

If you have to drink then limit the amount of alcohol so that you don't get drunk. Surrogate every other drink with a glass of spring water and lemon. It will dilute the alcohol you've had, keep you hydrated, and will give you something to sip on while socializing.

Plan an Escape Have an action plan in your mind when smoking people are bothering you. Explain to them you've recently quit smoking, if not, excuse yourself for a few minutes to go to the bathroom or step outside for some fresh air.

Deviate Your Attention

Keep yourself busy with one or the other activity such as dancing, eating or simple talking. Try and deviate your attention from the routine drinking and smoking….remember there are many other ways of enjoying and feeling happy.

Avoid Going

The holiday parties come up as a threat to your quit program, just consider not going if you fear the temptation to drink will be more than you can handle, don't push yourself. Remember, there will be more parties next year. So, you can give yourself the time you need to restore to health from this menacing addiction.

Learn to change your association to smoking, and the day will come soon when drinking no longer triggers your urge to smoke.

You should remember that alcohol and early smoking cessation stage are not a good blend. When we're learning to live a smoke free life, alcohol puts you at risk. It is wise to give yourself the best surroundings for success, so that you can move through the holiday season. Your quit program should be in focus and do the needful to protect and foster it.
