It sounds wonderful. All you have to do is simply fill out surveys on line and you will make a killing working from home in your spare time. That is what paid survey services offer. At one point, on the front page of their website, you can see how you can make $23,456 a year by filling out 4 $20 surveys a day. Sounds too good to be true? Well, let's take a closer look.

Currently, paid survey providers are charging a fee of $35 - $100. According to their websites, they charge this to ensure that only serious survey takers sign up for their service. The thought being that if you are willing to pay to have access to the site and the list they provide, you will be more apt to sign in everyday and take one of the hundreds of surveys available. And while there are no other reoccurring fees, they do charge quite a bit to have access to a list. In the FAQs section of their sites, it is usually stated that they cannot take the money out of your first check or when you have taken a certain amount worth of surveys because the checks are sent directly from the requesting company. The website FAQs also addresses the issue of "how do I know this isn't a scam?" this is answered by "We have been in business for two and a half years and going stronger than ever!.....If this was not a legitimate employment offer we would have been out of business long ago. We assure you this is a legitimate employment offer."

One red flag of paid survey providers is that they charge you to be on a list. When was the last time you went for a job interview and they said you could have the job if you paid them first? Generally speaking, you should steer clear of anyplace that wants to take your money before you can make some. Most of them do claim that the fee is refundable. We will look at that in a little bit.

There have been reports that what you actually get for your money is a compilation of lists upon lists of sites. It is presented so that you think you are eliminating the step of having to look thru link after link to find a legitimate pay survey site. The surveys themselves sometimes pay as little as .50 each. You would have to do a lot of surveys to make any real money.

However, there have been a lot of complaints about these services. They have been accused of taking your hard earned cash and not refunding the money when it is revealed that the claims are not all they are cracked up to be.

The lesson that has been learned by many people over the last two and a half years when dealing with paid survey providers is that if it is too good to be true, it probably is. If you are looking to spend hours looking for surveys and filling out applications in the hopes that you will qualify for a focus group, save your money and search the internet yourself. You don't need to pay someone else to do it for you.
