20 Fun Free and Meaningful Things Every Student Can Do This Christmas Vacation
1. Careen down some hills on your old faithful sled. Bonus: Walking up the hill is great for the glutes.
2. Watch your favorite Christmas cartoons from your childhood like A Muppet Family Christmas and Frosty the Snowman. I still watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street -- you're never too old for your favorite holiday cartoons!
3. Build a snowman.
4. Curl up beside a fire with hot chocolate.
5. Host a Pictionary tournament (winners get bragging rights till next year!).
6. Become a Big Brother or a Big Sister and mentor a child in need (visit http://www.bbbsa.org/).
7. Play hide and seek at night with your siblings under the glow of your neighbors' Christmas lights. No, you're not too "cool" for this once you're over 12.
8. Lie down in freshly fallen snow and make a snow angel.
9. Read The Night Before Christmas to your little cousin. Make sure to treat your little one to full special effects and don't forget to animate your voice. "Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
10. Start a snowball fight with your friends (just try not to make anyone's nose bleed).
11. Flip through old Christmas pictures with your parents and reminisce.
12. If you were lucky enough to have a tech-savvy family member while growing up, watch your old family videos. Make sure to invite your cousins over for this event for extra humiliation!
13. Decorate Mom's Christmas cutout cookies (just don't eat more than you frost and sprinkle).
14. SLEEP IN.
15. Attend your local high school's annual holiday concert.
16. Sing Christmas carols (even if it's only in the privacy of your own car).
17. For the brave: Round up your friends and sing carols around your neighborhood. There's nothing like the sound of people singing "Silent Night" outside your window to let you know you're not forgotten no matter how lonely you are or how bad things may seem.
18. Send out a personalized holiday e-card to all your friends & family.
19. Crafty? Make holiday cards and give them out to your loved ones when you see them throughout the holiday season. Inside the card, write down the top 5 things that make them special to you.
20. New Year's resolutions and to-do lists already dancing through your mind? Instead of listing your New Year's resolutions for 2007, write yourself a thank-you note for surviving 2006. List all the blessings you've received this year and write down everything you're proud to have accomplished. Make the New Year a time of reflection -- you deserve the break!
