Lacrosse is a team sport which is quite popular in countries Of USA and Canada. This is played with a hard ball made of rubber and a racket that has a long handle. There are four positions that the players acquire in Lacrosse. They are Goalkeepers, Midfielder, Defensemen and Attackmen.
This game originated in America and it used be played for various reasons. Sometimes the purpose was to train young warriors and soldiers and sometimes as a religious rite. They were played in wide pitches and the used to linger for several days.
This was a popular game among the prominent tribes and held a lot of importance in their social as well as religious lives. But the rules and procedures of this game underwent a lot of changes since 14th century.
Gradually the students of Universities and high schools also started playing this game and the game of Lacrosse was considered as an event in the Olympics of the years 1928 and 1932. The box Lacrosse is another popular form of this game.
Rules of Lacrosse
The game of Lacrosse needs two teams of ten players and both of them contest to hit a ball made of solid rubber and send it to the goal of the opposite team. A goalkeeper is always there to stop the goals to happen. This is divided into quarters.
Each of the quarters starts with the "Face-off". The face-off means that the ball is positioned on the playground and the players lay their Lacrosse stick horizontally in order to hit the ball hard. There is a restraining line for the attackers as well as the defenders which they are not allowed to cross.
The players try to scrape the Lacrosse ball from the ground and run with it in their sticks and they try to pass it to the other player of their team. The other team does the same and often tries to snatch the ball from the opponent. This game can continue at a fast pace and can have approximately 20 balls.
Lacrosse Equipment
The general equipments of Lacrosse are ball, sticks and gloves etc. The Lacrosse balls can be white, or orange in color. The weight of the balls is around 5 ounces. The Lacrosse stick can be about 72 inches long. The head of this stick can be made of laminated wood or plastic.
The shaft of this stick can be manufactured with materials like aluminum and wood. The players are bound to use helmets along with gloves and shoes in which they can feel comfortable and play the sport easily. The goal keeper is need to wear a chest-guard and also a throat protector.
The most important fact is that if any of the players loose the equipments the game gets suspended immediately.
