Many people go to Barcelona for the beaches, the food, the Gaudi culture and for a number of reasons. Some of you also choose to go to Barcelona because of the prominence of football (soccer for Americans) in the city with FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol based in the city. Below we look at how you can get tickets and enjoy a visit to the Nou camp on your holiday in Barcelona.

One thing to be careful about is to make sure you book flights and accommodation for the full weekend, if planning in advance because TV broadcasts slots can result in Saturday games sometimes becoming Sunday games. The time and day in other words are open to change and if you ensure you are in Barcelona for the full Saturday and Sunday for a weekend game, you should then be fine.

One thing many first time visitors to the Nou Camp for Barcelona games, forget or are unaware of, is that the stadium is an open roof one. For this reason, it can get quite cold in the upper tiers of the stands and even in the summertime. You are open to the elements so plan accordingly if need be.

You can normally get tickets for many of the games but Champions League games and the very popular Barcelona v Real Madrid games can get sold out. You might want to try and book early to ensure that you get tickets ahead of booking your flights and accommodation.

You might also want to consider RCD Espanyol who also play in the city of Barcelona. Housed in the Olympic Stadium, which was built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the stadium is much smaller than that of the Nou camp but it also offers a more intimate and real football style atmosphere. RCD Espanyol play in the top tier, alongside FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

When going to the stadium you should allow plenty of time because the huge stadium and crowds at the Nou camp mean that you have to allow time to enter the stadium. Just getting to your seat on the top tier can take time so why rush. Leave a little earlier than you might otherwise have and enjoy the game.

Most people really want to get tickets for the FC Barcelona v Real Madrid game but why not consider the local derby and see RCD Espanyol v FC Barcelona or vice versa. This game always has real tension and excitement and the rivalry clear. This game often produces a lot of goals and excitement.
