How To Shake Off a Bad Hole and Shoot Better Scores

Today I am discussing the ever popular round ruining bad hole and how you can shake it off and shoot better scores.

We've all been there. We are playing well and everything seems to be going our way. Your buddies are freaking out because they are going to have to pay you big time today and you are just having the time of your life. Then, BAM! You make an 8 faster than you can say snowman on a par 4 or 5 and now all the old demons start creeping back in. Now you start thinking about how did I let that happen and how can I get my game back.

Has this happened to you before? Have you started trying to figure out what you will shoot with 3 holes to go and then shoot double, triple, double coming in? Then you get to start telling all of your friends what you SHOULD HAVE shot instead of what you did shoot. I know I have been there too. Let's face it, we all have been there.

So, what if I told you there was an easy way to stop this and you could do it as soon as you decided it would work for you? What if I told you all you had to do was decide you weren't going to put up with this anymore and your "one bad hole" would be a thing of the past?

Okay, okay already. I am going to get to it. I know you want this solved now so here you go. The next time you are playing a round, the first thing you have to do is give someone else your scorecard. That's right. Don't even carry one with you in the cart or in your bag. Then all you do is play your round and tell your playing partner your score after each hole. I know this is the tough part, but the first time you try this, you will want to play with someone who is not going to derail what you are trying to do. Meaning you don't want your buddy who will try to beat you at everything and ask them to keep score. You need to tell whoever is keeping score to not tell you what you are shooting. That is why you don't want your most competitive friend doing this because they want you to know what you are shooting so you start thinking. The idea here is you don't think about score, but that you think about each shot and each hole one at a time.

The other thing you have to do is accept you may have a bad hole when you play a round of golf. We are not professionals and even they have bad holes now and then. But, the difference between them and us is, they don't let a bad hole ruin their round and we do. As soon as we do it, we start reminding ourselves we just aren't that good, that we expected this to happen and we just have to accept the fact we have at least one hole to ruin our round. You don't have to accept this idea.

By having someone else keep your score and you only focusing on the hole you are playing and "getting lost in your round" as I like to call it you will not focus on your score. And if you have a hole that doesn't go well, since you aren't really sure what you are shooting, you will just concentrate that much harder on just playing well on the next hole. I know it sounds simple and you may be thinking, I don't have to try this because I don't think that way, I would just say, try it. What have you got to lose? Except more strokes and more than likely, more money to your playing partners.

Good luck and I hope you find this stroke saving tip to be helpful.

To your golfing success,

Nick
