Discover The Secret To Changing Your Habit Patterns

Yesterday evening, my wife and I had coffee at the local cafe in Sri Petaling called "Kopitiam". I thought of taking her to Bukit Jalil Park for a quiet evening walk, but it rained heavily, so we ended up here instead. She updated me on the activities of my personal coaching participants she spoke to earlier in the morning.

As she was briefing me, I noticed something was bothering her. My wife is engaged in a new business that involved telemarketing. She was confused; why was it difficult for the sales people to hit higher targets, she asked. Even when they hit the higher target once in a long while, they always seem to fall back to normal sales levels. Without skipping a beat I replied to her, "Habit patterns my dear!". She looked at me expecting an explanation.

The mind is a marvelous piece of instrument. It almost automatically manages the whole body without your help! Think about it; breathing, pumping the heart, blood flow, etc, everything works on its own without any conscious effort from your side. These are done subconsciously. Similarly, if you have been thinking, saying and doing something over and over again for a long period of time, then that would also be regulated by the subconscious mind. This is known to human beings as "Habit Patterns". My wife shook her head asking for an example. I smiled and continued.

Assuming a salesperson has been doing average sales for a long time. Then something out of the ordinary happens. For example, he goes to a motivation workshop, gets excited and sets a new higher goal. The new goal backed with his willpower of wanting to achieve the goal, breaks through the old average habit pattern and puts the entire subconscious into chaos. His breathing would be higher, he would eat less, find it difficult to sleep as the endocrine glands would be working overtime.

He would wake up early and go to bed late at night, while continuously thinking, saying and doing all that are necessary to achieve his goals. All this is simply because of the will power of wanting to achieve the goal. The adrenalin rush, the one-point focus of the mind on the goal, and coupled with the simultaneous working of Law of Vibration and Attraction, all these would eventually get him to achieve the goal that he had set.

However, this is only temporary. Once, the goal is achieved, the willpower also known here as conscious effort will reduce, and slowly the old average habit pattern (subconscious) which has been in place for a very long time would start to regain its place again. It would first start off subtly; for example, thoughts such as, "I have done well, so I deserve a holiday", or "I am now the best so I can take it easy a bit!", and so on.

The moment you take the bait, the old average habit pattern would start to firmly grip your subconscious system again and do its best to return to your average sales. The subconscious would now see that YOU seem not to be in proper order, and thus would slow you down, for example by making you ill by manipulating the functions of the endocrine glands (increasing or decreasing), and then ensuring that the proper vibrations are sent out through Law of Vibration and Attraction to attract problems to get you off from focusing on your new goals.

This could be in the forms of communication problems with your spouse, a serious error in judgment causing you to lose money, etc. This is mainly to weaken the new found will power to achieve the new goal; and all this would be done by the dutiful subconscious mind until the person gives in and return to his average sales. Then he lets a long sigh and says that his luck has just run out!

As I finished this, my wife asked how to prevent this from taking place, and to maintain focus on the targeted goal. Looking at her straight in the eye I said, "Persistence my dear, persistence!". Every second, tens and thousands of cells die in the body and many new cells are born at the same time. This ratio changes as a person gets older. It takes roughly three months for the whole body (except the nervous system) to replace its old cells. In this way, the subconscious mind rejuvenates the body. In other words, you get a new body approximately every three months.

All a person has to do is to be persistent with his or her willpower for at least three to six months, and then the new goal would now become the new habit pattern, and the subconscious would adjust the mind and body to it accordingly. This new habit pattern would be programmed into the cells! That is how it works!

My wife smiled and nodded. We paid for the coffee and left.
