Assuming that you are already in good health and simply need to drop a few pounds, there are a number of things you can do to lose weight quickly and safely. However, these are not long-term solutions for those who are obese or for whom weight problems are the result of a medical condition. It's always a good idea to talk to your doctor and have a checkup before starting a diet or jumping into an exercise program.

The best place to start is to consider your dietary needs during your brief weight loss program. You need to obviously reduce portion sizes, eliminate unhealthy snacks, especially soft drinks and alcohol. Focus on consuming lean meats, low carbohydrate vegetables and avoid fast foods altogether. Drink plenty of water to ensure you remain hydrated, especially while exercising.

You will find that with the proper water intake, well balanced meals and a realistic exercise regimen, you'll see visible results in just a day or two. When exercising, although you may tend to focus strictly on aerobics, you will actually lose more weight and increase your overall metabolism by including resistance training in your daily routine. While aerobics are terrific for your cardiovascular system, the simple fact is that even at rest, muscles burn more calories!

You might be thinking of not eating anything at all for a day or two, but do not risk it. Once your body goes into starvation mode, you'll begin to feel lethargic, you'll distort your body's chemistry and your blood sugar levels will plummet instead of your weight! Rather than risk unnecessarily complicating the loss of a pound or two, you're much better off making simple adjustments to your eating habits and activity levels.

Depending upon how much and how quickly you want to slim down, you may also want to consider sticking with your new program for more than just a few days. People who exercise regularly and generally stick to a healthy diet tend feel more energetic, emotionally well balanced and are much more productive than those who do not. You see people like this every day who just seem to get more out of life than others!

That's not to say that you can't enjoy the occasional break from your routine and curl up with your favorite comfort foods now and then. In fact, doing so is important - rewarding yourself for your efforts helps to strengthen your motivation and sense of will power when losing weight, whether quickly or slowly.
