Single traveller never had such a wide variety of options. The tourism industry for the singles knows exactly how to cater to the increasingly growing market for the solo travellers. With every passing day more and more travel companies are entering the industry offering exciting and cheap holidays for the singles.
One problem faced by solo travellers is the single person supplement. That means people on solo holidays have to pay for doubles. Booking of a hotel room is more expensive in the U.K than many other European cities.
In U.K. most of the pricing for the tour operating hotels is for two people sharing and generally most of the travel companies quote prices on the basis of maximum occupancy of any given hotel room. As a general rule when a hotel room is booked the prices are on per room basis but as a single traveller you will pay more than a couple on a pro rata basis as the pricing of the room is calculated on the rule of "twin sharing". The hotel put forward their reason that even one person uses the equal amount of electricity, bedding etc as two people. While the true reason is that the hotel losses out on their revenue since only a solo traveller is occupying the room. Sometimes the tourists travelling alone can feel penalized but then they can stay in travel lodges since they do not discriminate on solo travel in such a way.
