I Need My Space

"I need my space!"

Have you heard that one before? Guys use this one a lot...and gals, judging from all of the questions I get, are using it more and more as well. Here's what it means and some suggestions on how to hear it less often.

But what does it mean?

Before we get into the actual meaning...it is super important to know that the warning signs start early. See if any of the following sounds a tad familiar to you...

-Guys stop calling as often -Women start spending more time with their girlfriends. -More "problems" start popping up at work and school. "My grades are slipping" or "we have a big project at work" -A general attitude that makes you feel like you are being avoided.

These are the early signs, but generally we give them the benefit of the doubt...but sometimes we find out what they have been telling us doesn't match with what they are doing. You know what I mean?

They say they have to spend more time studying, but then we find out through the "grapevine" that they have been out partying or clubbing. The big question...the killer question is what do you do then? We have a natural tendency to want to confront them.

"Hey...What's Up?...You said you need to spend more time studying and I find out you were at TGI Friday's?"

Now...this is the wrong...wrong...wrong way to handle it, because what you are doing is PUSHING! And as you may know that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction...right? Sorry for sounding like a boring high school physics teacher, but it is so true in relationships.

You PUSH...they PULL...pull away...

They feel they have no space. Feel me? So what do you need to do instead? You need to PULL! NOT push! Not only is this really effective, but it is how you are going to get them back...even if they have given you the "I need my space" ultimatum...

So what is pulling? Pulling is attraction. Not just on a physical level...although let's be real, it does help. Does you see how all of this relates? Here are some "pulling tips:"

-Work on yourself, not on your partner. -Be fun and fun to be around, not giving them the second degree about why they didn't call last night. -Have an attitude that you desire them, but you do not need them to survive. -Let them know that you have options. If they cancel a date, then tell them it's okay, you have got plans too and leave it at that. -Always remember the "hungry dog" never gets fed. If you act needy, desperate and depressed you are going to get less attention than if you are confident, fun and upbeat. -Don't let them think, even for a second, that your whole life revolves around them. This goes contrary to what most women and men would tell you they want. But, you will be way more attractive if you let them know you want them in your life, not that they are your life.

The laws of attraction have been set for hundreds of years. Cleopatra used them as well as Casanova. You can leave your partner feeling they have all the space in the world and want to be close to you once you put these laws to use.

Anyways, that's just a little bit of a helper for ya. Those are the basics rules of using humor to attract women, but I'll confess it leaves a couple questions. With as much as I told you to NOT copy others, not the least of these questions is "so how do I actually come up with my own stuff?" Well, I've laid out a bit of info about that in Using Humor as a Weapon - What About the Ammo? If you plan to use what tips I have for you to build up your relationship quality through the use of humor, my first tip is to take a look. It's not going to cost you a penny, and it could pay off big time in the long run.
