Wedding Planner - How to Find a Good One

With Wedding Planning being such a relatively new industry in the UK, and more and more Wedding Planning companies popping up overnight, how do we possibly know who to use? Most wedding planners in the UK are 'one man bands' with little to no experience in planning a wedding. How do I know this? Because unfortunately I used one of them!

I enlisted the help of a Wedding Planner who I'd found advertising at a wedding exhibition. Big Mistake! I do believe she was using my wedding to 'practice' on! Very early on in the planning process she give me so many reasons to doubt her ability that I soon realised it would be far better for me to lose my deposit than to continue down this road of catastrophe which she seemed to be paving.

The mistake I made was not 'to use a wedding planner', but rather, that I had not found a good one! Wedding Planners can be invaluable in planning a beautiful, stress free wedding, as I found out with the second company whom I booked, (after thoroughly researching first I might add).

3 Tips for choosing a Good Wedding Planner:

Don't be overly impressed with photos they show you of previous weddings. They may not be theirs!

Ask her if she works as a full time wedding planner or if she will be working on her wedding on a part time basis. Call a few times during the day to see if anyone picks up the phone. If you keep getting the answering machine, think twice about using this Planner.

Ask her if she will personally attend your wedding. How long will she stay? Who will cover her if she is ill?
