Wanting to be noticed in the worldwide web is the reason why people build websites. The internet also reaches a global market and businesses want a slice of that market. The internet presents a lot of opportunities to businesses to market their product and services. Therefore, whether the goal is just to get noticed or reach consumers worldwide, creating a website is just the beginning of things. You need to build awareness; people need to know you are there.

In order for people to know your site is in the web, you have to be picked up by search engines like Yahoo and Google; but with thousands of websites competing to be on top of the ranks, there is a lot of work and time involved to optimize your position on search engines. One way to increase your ranking is build linking; this is a method where you spread the link to your site throughout the net. But before you post your link all over the net, you should take note of some link building tips that could help you build quality links.

There are lots of ways to build links. You can post it by commenting on blogs and forums; just make sure all your posts are relevant to the discussion. Never flood a forum if you don't want to be kicked out. People don't like spammers, so instead of getting traffic, you might end up losing more potential customers.

If you are quite an expert on a specific topic, you could try and answer question on Yahoo! answers and post your relevant link there.

You can also submit articles and press releases to other sites; just make sure your articles are of great quality because these will reflect the quality of your site.

Reciprocal link is also another way. Here, you ask a webmaster to put your link to his website and of course you do the same as a favor to him. When exchanging links, make sure the site you're exchanging links with is a complementary site. If you are selling accessories online, it would be completely irrelevant if you will exchange links with a site selling kitchen appliances.

Link building is important but don't jump on all opportunities to get a back link -- quality is important. You can have hundreds of bad links that wont even drive even one traffic or just ten good links that could produce thousands of quality traffic, so don't just waste time and energy. Master all these link building tips. You want real people and potential customers to get to your site.

Also important is the look and content of your site. There should be some great content worth promoting. Even the best of link builders will have a hard time working with a site that does not have good and quality content. You don't want just a one-time visitor; you would want people to bookmark you. You can only get good steady traffic if they like your site, so make sure you update it regularly and not just focus on link building.
