Women are all-around busy these days: some are pursuing demanding careers, others are raising children and maintaining households, and many are doing both. The pressure to do it all can be overwhelming; the need to getaway is undeniable.

However, "getaway" generally implies an escape from life's stressors-not an easy feat for today's do-it-all woman. So it's no wonder that "girls' getaways" have become popular among many women. The premise of a girls' getaway is just as it sounds: a group of girlfriends getting out of town together.

Planning a girlfriends' trip can be half the fun. It offers a reason for a group of friends to get together beforehand to work out the details of the trip-and to revel in the excitement of their upcoming vacation. Spending an evening (or two) at one friend's house or at a restaurant or coffee shop and discussing possible destinations, accommodations, and costs is an integral part of the planning process.

Cost will likely be a major determining factor in picking a destination. Obviously, some locations are pricier than others, and travel expenses can vary depending on how far the group is traveling (driving five hours will cost considerably less than flying five hours). Once a budget that suits everyone's needs is determined, decisions concerning where to go, how to get there and where to stay can be made.

When deciding on accommodations, group size and preferences of everyone involved should be considered. Condos and vacation houses tend to be the best options for groups, and many places offer group vacation packages. For example, Brett/Robinson offers a girls' getaway package that includes a condo rental in Gulf Shores, a 50-minute massage for each person, a cheesecake, and a bottle of champagne-things to add a little flare to the girlfriends' getaway experience.

Finalizing the details is the last step. Once everyone is in agreement and has verified that they are available during the decided dates, it's time to book the trip-and maybe plan a group shopping spree to prepare for the outing.
