Montgomery's book 'Anne of green gables' was eventually translated into 20 languages. People travel from all over the world to witness the site that inspired the famous tale of beloved Anne. As many as 10000 of the island's annual visitors are now from Japan. It is one of the country's top destinations for Japanese travelers because of green Gables.

Fortunately, the trip is well worth it. Green Gables located in Cavendish has all of the charm and character that Montgomery's book promises. Touring through the delightful farmhouse is like visiting a place from your childhood in which a dear friend once lived. There is no need for a tour guide to explain which room is which. The period furniture and decor would please even those who are not familiar with the novel.

Outside the excitement and experience continues with a stroll through Lover's Lane which sings with idealistic childhood ambiance. The Haunted Woods are no disappointment either. Here one identifies with Anne's panic and apprehension over the horrifying possibilities and eerie atmosphere. The trees through here appear ready to grab little girls with wild imaginations.

Aside from the house and surrounding gardens and paths, there is a gift shop on the grounds. There are also several museums and exhibits throughout the island that invite the public to learn about and recognize Lucy Maud Montgomery's role as an author of national and historical significance.

Following a path that leads from green gables toward the church will bring visitors to the cemetery in which Montgomery is buried.
