Adult day training programs are services that support the participation or recipients in meaningful routines in the community. Typically, adult day training programs will be work-like settings but it will not be the same as supported employment.

Adult day training services will benefit the adult enrolled in the program by helping them with adaptive and social skills. Adult training is carefully done in a way that it is age and culturally appropriate depending on the person.

When it comes to adult training, you end up getting what you want out of it. The recipients set their own goals and it is up to them to achieve them. It works best for the recipient if he or she sets goals that are within the bounds of the routines established by the adult training program.

The training, activities, and routine set up by the adult training program will have meaning to the adult and will offer a great deal of variation and interest. The formal implementation plan is again up to the adult in the adult day training program, as it is designed to reflect his or her goals.

In most cases, the services rendered by the recipients will be in an organized facility and they are expected to put in at least six hours a day on a regular schedule. Adults are expected to participate at least one day per week. A majority of the time must be spent in training and program activities.

Adults are allowed time to render community services as long as it fits in with their support plans and reflects the goals that were set in accordance with the implementation plan. They can volunteer in local hospitals, for example, or they may volunteer in other community organizations.

Adult day training services need not be the only type of services the recipient can provide. He or she may have supported employment or other services to provide for one part of the day or week and can schedule adult day training services around them. Adult day training services will only be billable for the prorated share of the day or week that the adult actually participated in the adult day training.

There are a few different types of services an adult can provide that is included in adult day training. A few examples are mobile crews and entrepreneurial models that aren't classified as supported employment. The groups involved in adult day training usually include four or more adults.

Recipients can expect to be compensated for their work. They are paid similar wages to those in the general workforce that perform the same tasks and responsibilities. If you receive adult training away from the site but you are doing something that benefits the organization that someone else would otherwise have to do, the organization is required to pay you.

As a result of their training, they will have the skills to work in other fields and opportunities will open up. Recipients will be the beneficiaries of additional employment opportunities. Providers will conduct orientations to inform recipients of employment options in the community. Thus, adult day training can be a stepping-stone to a better life.
