How You Can Use Article Marketing To Boost Your Copywriting Business

This one is just for my copywriting colleagues. If you're not one of us, you may be able to glean some good info from this article, but the truth of it is, if you're not a copywriter, I didn't write this for you.

I used article marketing to build my copywriting business into a strong brand that got me exposure across the United States and even in some other countries such as England and Australia. Clients were coming from several different sources and my fledgling business writing business took off.

Here's how I did it:

I started to publish an e-mail newsletter. I learned about these things when I was still in the working world. I did an article on a company that used these newsletters to boost their business. When I started my own firm I decided to use ezines to promote myself. Fax newsletters were just too expensive, unreliable and tough to track. Ezines were the exact opposite.

I started writing articles for each issue of the ezine. These articles were directed toward a specific audience - small business owners and/or home-based businesses. I wanted to show them I knew what I was talking about when it came to writing. Pretty soon I developed a dedicated following.

I began to publish articles online. Once I published my articles on directories things really took off. I saw so much traffic flowing into my Web site. It was incredible. I just checked my stats the other day and the steady stream of dedicated, targeted traffic is still coming to my site.

Client Streaming System in a Nutshell

To get that steady stream of clients, follow this system: Create an ezine, write an article and publish that article online. The results you'll get are:

targeted traffic to your Web site

more of the "right"clients

a steady stream of clients for your copywriting company.

If you're a copywriter worth your salt you already know how to adapt templates and article formats so that they fit your message. So what are you waiting for, start taking a few hours out of your day to start an ezine, write a few articles and send them out to your list of clients.

This will bring you:

repeat clients

new business (those "dream clients" who pay on time and are eager to give you more work), and

More media exposure.

A quick word on media exposure: As a result of my efforts in article marketing I was published in two major books in marketing and copywriting, one 99 Cows by Seth Godin (big time marketing guru) and The Well-Fed Writer: Back for Seconds by Peter Bowerman (copywriting expert and the guy who inspired me to start my own firm).

This all came from the system I developed using my Web site, ezines and articles.

My final piece of advice: Start today - get a Web site or blog right now. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. You may be doing just fine without a site or blog, but one fine day that stream of business that you thought would never go away may just shrink in size. Plus your blog or Web site could be the deciding factor for a client who's considering hiring you.
