Should the activities become known or even suspected, they may lose their jobs. They may also be rejected by family and 'straight' friends. If they are not able to find companionship and support in a homosexual community or with homosexual friends, they are liable to feel lonely and depressed. Men more often than women may face imprisonment, blackmail or physical abuse," said Paul M. Insel and Walton T. Roth in "Core Concepts in Health."

"If you are an openly homosexual teenager, you may face rejection by some of your peers, teachers and family. If you are having difficulty adjusting to your sexual preference, or to others' reactions to it, psychotherapy may prove helpful," added Dr. David E.
