Musical Glue

A couple of weeks ago, I was heading out of Barnes & Noble when I caught a glimpse of a magazine that had Iron & Wine's Sam Beam on the cover. Being a big fan of his music, I stopped to take a peek at the magazine - and within about 15 seconds of peeking, I purchased the copy. The magazine is called "Paste" - and I don't think I've seen music that matters to me covered this well since pre-1980's Rolling Stone. Last night I bought the new issue, and then a year subscription.

To give you an idea, aside from Ryan Adams being this month's feature article, there are also articles about Band of Horses, Over The Rhine, Lucinda Williams and the Decemberists. There is much more to this excellent monthly than even what I just mentioned. First, how about a price of $5.95 an issue, or $19.95 a year, and each issue includes a 20+ song CD of various new artists?

Then I find out I'm reading an article that's been written by David Meade - someone we played regularly on abs (and still play here). So now I find the need to know more about this magazine and as it turns out, it was started out of Decatur, Georgia - just a few miles from my office. The newest issue is number 37 - so they are just barely into their third year - but if you didn't already know about it, I can't recommend it highly enough. Very well written, informative, entertaining and music that matters to me!
