Unfortunately many auto accidents involve head and brain trauma. This can lead to more serious and often permanent impairment of the brain's functions. Many times these injuries are a result of skull fractures, severe bruising or nerve damage. Statistics do suggest that most head and brain injuries are a result of side impact car accidents.

Many times it is very difficult to diagnosis a brain injury but usually CT scans and MRI scans are some of the main tools that are used diagnosis brain injury. Whiplash is another very common injury sustained from car accidents. Most of the time whiplash is a result of rear-end accidents. Normally, whiplash causes pain in the neck and limited head movement. Also, many times the back is affected by car accidents, especially the discs, causing them to bulge, slip or rupture.

Car accidents can affect discs in the back and the neck and often are lifelong injuries or may even require surgery. Very often internal injuries are a result of car accidents. These include injuries to the liver, spleen, heart, lungs, kidneys, or the bowels. Sometimes an auto accident will cause a puncture to the lungs which can further damage other internal organs.

Further injuries from a car accident include damage to the hips, legs, ankle sprains, or fractures of the pelvis, femur, or patella. These are all common injuries that are sustained in car accidents but there are not any injuries that are completely unavoidable, including death.
